Cobalt oxide is a mineral compound with the chemical formula CoO that is soluble in acid and insoluble in water, alcohol and ammonia. Easily reduced to metallic cobalt by carbon monoxide. It also reacts easily with silica, alumina or zinc oxide at high temperatures to form a variety of pigments.
